Description - Hedgehog Mix Seedballs

The fab team at Seedball have teamed up with People's Trust For Endangered Species to create the Hedgehog Seedball Mix.

The hedgehog population in the UK is in decline, with numbers down by 50% since 2000. We can all play a part in helping out the little hogs by doing something as simple as growing native wildflowers!

A wildflower patch is a super addition to creating a hedgehog friendly garden, not only in providing shelter but importantly to attract a whole range of tasty insects for hedgehogs to feed on.

  • No digging or expert knowledge required - easy to use!
  • 20 balls per tin - approx 30 seeds per ball
  • Peat-free compost
  • A mix of native wildflowers that will attract solitary bees, honey bees and bumblebees
  • Made in the UK

Made by Seedball

What is a Seedball?

A ball made from seeds, clay, peat-free compost and chili powder.

Seeds - a mix of seeds for bee-friendly flowers

Clay - holds the ball together and provides protection from birds and insects

Peat-free compost - provides the nutrition

Chili powder - deters slugs and snails from eating the young shoots

How it works

The seeds are encased in a ball with clay, peat-free compost and chili powder which means they're essentially already 'planted'.

So once they are scattered on top of compost or soil (remember to avoid scattering on grass), with water and sunlight, the seeds will start to germinate.

The whole process can take 4-6 weeks.

The plants will begin to establish and the ball will break down and become less visible.

A beautiful wildflower garden will soon follow!

Flowers included

Each seed ball contains approximately 30 seeds from a mix of Yellow Rattle, Wild Carrot, Birdsfoot Trefoil, Tufted Vetch, Self Heal and Poppy.

How to use Seedballs

This tin contains 20 seedballs which is enough to cover 1 metre square in a garden bed or 3-5 medium sized pots.

1. Throw the balls onto soil or compost in your garden bed or planter.

2. Leave at least 10cm between each ball in a pot or garden bed

3. It really is as simple as that! The seedball has everything it needs to grow and germinate once the ball becomes moist and the temperature is right

When to scatter

Scatter your seedballs in Spring or Autumn.
