Bamboo Hairbrush - EcoLiving

A fully plastic-free, biodegradable hairbrush - bamboo handle, natural rubber cushion, and hornbeam wood pins.

Most hairbrushes are more plastic than you'd think - not just the handle, but those little bobbles on the pin tips too. This one from EcoLiving has none of it. The handle is bamboo, the cushion is natural rubber, and the pins are made from hornbeam - a dense, hardwearing wood that works just as well as metal.

At end of life, the whole thing is compostable. It's a straightforward swap that doesn't ask anything of you beyond buying a slightly better brush.

  • Completely plastic-free - handle, cushion and pins
  • Pins made from hornbeam wood - firm, smooth and kind to the scalp
  • Natural rubber cushion for flexibility during brushing
  • Fully biodegradable and home compostable at end of life

Size: 215 x 63mm

If you have thicker hair or prefer a longer pin for more detangling, take a look at our wooden hairbrush with extra long pins as an alternative.

Product Care

Remove hair from the bristles regularly to keep the brush working well. Avoid soaking in water - a damp cloth or a quick rinse is fine, but prolonged moisture will shorten the life of the natural rubber cushion. When it's done, it can go straight in the compost.

FAQs

Is the bamboo hairbrush suitable for all hair types?
It works well for most hair types - the cushioned base gives a little flex and the hornbeam pins are smooth enough not to snag. For very thick or curly hair, our wooden hairbrush with extra long pins may be a better fit as the longer pins reach further through the hair.

Are the pins on a bamboo hairbrush as effective as metal pins?
Hornbeam is one of the hardest woods available - it's used in tool handles and piano parts for exactly that reason. The pins are firm, durable and smooth-tipped, so they perform well without scratching the scalp.

Can a bamboo hairbrush go in the compost?
Yes - the whole brush is made from natural materials and is fully home compostable at end of life. Just remove any trapped hair first before adding it to your compost bin.

How do I clean a bamboo hairbrush?
Clear out hair from the pins regularly. If you need to clean the bristles, use a damp cloth or a quick rinse under the tap - just avoid leaving it submerged or wet for long periods as this can affect the rubber cushion over time.
