FAQs
What's the difference between soda crystals and bicarbonate of soda?
Both are natural and alkaline, but soda crystals are significantly more alkaline and better suited to heavy-duty cleaning like degreasing and drain clearing.
Bicarbonate of soda is milder and better for deodorising, light abrasive cleaning and baking.
For a full overview of how the natural cleaners compare, Clean & Green by Nancy Birtwhistle is a great reference.
Are soda crystals environmentally friendly?
Yes - sodium carbonate is biodegradable, non-toxic and breaks down naturally without harmful residues.
It's also produced through the Solvay process using salt and limestone - no petroleum-derived ingredients.
What surfaces should I avoid?
Do not use on aluminium, waxed or wooden surfaces - the alkalinity can damage them.
Fine on most other hard surfaces including tiles, stainless steel, enamel and ceramic.
