How To Use

Multipurpose cleaner: Add 1 tbsp of citric acid per 500ml of warm water to a spray bottle. Use on bathroom surfaces, tiles, taps and anywhere with limescale or hard water marks.

Descaling a kettle: Half-fill your kettle and bring to the boil. Carefully add 2 tbsp of citric acid (take care with the hot steam) and leave to cool. Rinse thoroughly a couple of times and your kettle will be as good as new.

General descaling: The same principle works for shower heads, taps and other appliances - soak in a citric acid solution and rinse clean.

FAQs

Is citric acid safe to use?
Yes - it's a natural weak acid that's non-toxic and safe around the home. It's also widely used in food as a natural preservative, so it's about as gentle as cleaning products get.

What's the difference between citric acid, bicarb and soda crystals?
They're complementary rather than interchangeable. Citric acid is acidic, making it brilliant for limescale and mineral deposits. Bicarbonate of soda is mildly alkaline and good for deodorising and light abrasive cleaning. Soda crystals are more strongly alkaline and great for grease, blocked drains and laundry. Together, the three cover most household cleaning jobs - and Nancy Birtwhistle's Clean & Green has brilliant recipes using all of them.

I'm a local customer - is there a better option for me?
Yes - you can refill your own container on local delivery, which cuts out packaging entirely. See our Refill Delivery Information page to check if you're in our area.
