About Pear Post

Pear Post

Why we started, and how we choose our makers

Independent makers, honestly chosen. Gifts that mean something.

How Pear Post started

Pear Post grew out of six years of running Green Pear Eco and The Pear in Clare. For a long time we knew we wanted to offer a gifting range — the kind of thoughtfully curated gift boxes we'd actually want to give and receive ourselves — but we needed the right products, the right makers, and the right foundation to do it properly.

Once The Pear was established and we had years of supplier relationships, real product knowledge and a genuine feel for what quality looks like, the moment finally felt right. Pear Post is something Gab has wanted to build for a long time. This is it.

We looked at what was already out there and found a lot of beautiful packaging around very average contents. Gift boxes filled with products from companies that had been acquired, scaled up, and quietly hollowed out. We wanted to build something different.

How we choose our makers

Every maker in a Pear Post box has been found through years of building relationships in the independent maker world, through The Pear's supplier network, recommendations from people we trust, and a lot of time spent researching makers who caught our attention.

Right now our boxes are built around food and drink, but that's just the beginning. As Pear Post grows, so will the range of makers we work with. Bath and body, home, candles, and more are all on the horizon, chosen with the same criteria we apply to everything: plastic-free, independently owned, and genuinely well made.

Finding a great product is only half the job. Before anything goes in a box, we look closely at who is actually behind it. We want to know the business is genuinely independent, that there isn't an investment group sitting behind the scenes taking a cut and deploying it in ways that conflict with everything we stand for.

It matters to us where the money goes. Major investment firms pour capital into all kinds of industries and businesses we wouldn't choose to support. So when we spot institutional investment behind a maker, however good their product, we look elsewhere. It's a harder line to hold than it sounds, but it's one we're committed to.

Hu Kitchen is a good example. Their chocolate ticked every box on paper, and plenty of people loved it. But Hu is owned by Mondelez, a corporation with a deeply troubling track record on environmental destruction, rainforest protection, and the displacement of indigenous communities. However good the product, that's not money we want to move. We found better chocolate, from people we can actually stand behind.

  • Every maker is independently owned and operated
  • Products are made in small batches with real ingredients
  • Packaging is plastic-free throughout
  • We check provenance, ownership and supply chains before we commit
  • We try everything before it goes in a box
  • If a maker is acquired or changes hands, we reassess

Why it matters where you shop

People are going to buy gifts online. That's just reality. But there's a meaningful difference between buying through a platform that hoovers up margin and distributes it to shareholders, and buying from a small business that puts that money back into sourcing better products, supporting better makers, and building something with actual values.

When you buy a Pear Post box, the money flows to us, a small team in Suffolk, and to the independent makers whose products are inside. Not to a warehouse algorithm. Not to a holding company. Not somewhere you'd rather it didn't go.

We've spent six years in the sustainable products space watching greenwashing become an industry of its own. Lots of brown paper and leaf logos, not much substance. Pear Post is our attempt to do this properly, premium gifting that's genuinely good, from genuinely good people.

Who we are

We're Dan and Gab, the husband and wife team behind Green Pear Eco and The Pear in Clare. We started our business because we believed it was possible to make more considered choices without sacrificing quality, in cleaning products, in food, and now in gifting.

Pear Post is a small operation. Every box is packed by us, every maker is known to us personally, and every order matters to us. We're not trying to be the biggest gifting company. We're trying to be one of the best.
