We no longer stock a refillable anti-bacterial surface spray - and it was a deliberate decision. Here's the thinking behind it.
For most everyday cleaning, an anti-bacterial spray isn't necessary.
Health authorities increasingly advise against reaching for antibacterial products as a matter of routine, because overuse is linked to bacteria building resistance - the same broader problem we see with the overuse of antibiotics.
Antibacterial sprays are genuinely useful in specific situations, such as when someone in the home is ill or immunocompromised, but for day-to-day messes they offer no real benefit over a standard cleaner.
That's because of how cleaning actually works. A good surface cleaner lifts dirt, grease and grime, and the physical act of wiping it away removes bacteria along with it - the surfactants in the cleaner break down bacterial cell membranes, and your cloth carries them off the surface.
Bacteria can't develop resistance to being physically removed, which makes everyday cleaning both effective and future-proof in a way that biocides aren't.
