BIORK Crystal Deodorant Stick
BIORK Crystal Deodorant Stick
Biork Crystal Deodorant Stick
A 100% natural potassium crystal deodorant in a cork housing - plastic-free, fragrance-free, and built to last up to a year.
Crystal deodorant has been used for thousands of years across Asia and the Middle East long before roll-ons and aerosols existed.
The active ingredient is potassium alum, a naturally occurring mineral salt that works by creating an antibacterial environment on the skin, stopping the bacteria that cause body odour from taking hold.
It doesn't block sweat glands the way antiperspirants do - it simply keeps odour-causing bacteria at bay.
The Biork version packages the crystal in cork rather than plastic - a smart material choice in its own right. Cork oak bark is harvested every nine years without harming the tree, and a regularly harvested cork oak actually absorbs more than three times as much CO2 as an unharvested one.
Buying cork products actively supports the conservation of Mediterranean cork oak forests, which absorb around 13 million tonnes of CO2 per year.

FAQs
How does crystal deodorant actually work?
Potassium alum is a natural mineral salt with antibacterial properties. It creates a thin, invisible layer on the skin that inhibits the bacteria responsible for body odour. Unlike antiperspirants, it doesn't block sweat glands - it just stops the odour at the source.
Does it contain aluminium?
Potassium alum is a naturally occurring mineral compound, chemically distinct from the aluminium chlorohydrate found in conventional antiperspirants. Its molecules are too large to be absorbed through the skin, which is why many people who prefer to avoid synthetic aluminium salts choose crystal deodorant instead.
How long does it last?
Up to a year with proper care - the key is drying it thoroughly after every use. A damp crystal left in its housing can crack over time, so towel it dry before putting it away.
Why cork?
Cork is one of the most sustainable packaging materials around. Cork oak bark is harvested every nine years without cutting the tree down, and harvested cork oaks absorb significantly more CO2 than unharvested ones. Choosing cork products helps support the conservation of Mediterranean cork oak forests.
