PÄRLA Plastic-Free Dental Floss - 30m

Conventional floss is a quiet plastic problem. The thread is nylon or PTFE, the case is plastic, and the whole thing usually arrives sealed in more plastic. None of it breaks down. PÄRLA was set up by three UK dentists who wanted to fix that without asking you to accept a worse clean, and this floss is the result.

The thread is made from plant fibres and coated with fluoride, so it works on the contact points between teeth where decay tends to start and a brush cannot reach. It is waxed, so it glides rather than shreds.

  • 30m per jar, around two months of daily flossing
  • Plant-based thread, home compostable
  • Fluoride coating to help strengthen enamel between teeth
  • Waxed and mint flavoured
  • Refillable glass jar with aluminium lid
  • Vegan, registered with the Vegetarian Society
  • Designed by dentists

How to Use

Pull out around 45cm and wind the ends around your middle fingers. Guide the floss between two teeth using a gentle rocking motion rather than snapping it down onto the gum. Curve it around the side of each tooth and move it up and down a few times. Use a fresh section for each gap. Floss before you brush.

FAQs

Is it strong enough? Plant-based floss has a reputation for snapping.
It is waxed and designed not to fray or break in tight contacts. If you have very tight gaps or rough edges on old fillings, you may still catch it occasionally, which is true of any floss.

Why is there fluoride on floss?
The surfaces between your teeth are the hardest to protect and a common place for decay to begin. A fluoride coating puts a small amount exactly where the brush cannot reach.

Can I really compost it at home?
Yes. Parla state the thread is 100% home compostable, unlike corn-based PLA flosses which generally need industrial composting.

How long does a jar last?
Roughly two months if you floss once a day.

Is it vegan?
Yes. There is no silk and no beeswax.
