Somerset apples first, elderflower second. Light, aromatic and balanced rather than perfumed, at 4%.
Sheppy's are deliberate about calling this Cider with Elderflower rather than Elderflower Cider, and the order of those words is the whole idea. The apple stays in charge; the elderflower sits behind it, floral and hedgerow-ish, keeping the whole thing light. Made to a medium taste and kept as natural as they can manage.
The summer bottle of the range, though it works just as well with roast chicken in February.
Contains sulphites.
Is it sweet?
Medium rather than sweet. The elderflower reads as floral more than sugary, and the apple keeps a dry edge underneath.
What should I eat with it?
Goat's cheese, roast pork, anything with apple in it. It also makes a decent base for a cider spritz with soda and a slice of lemon.
Sheppy's have been making cider at Three Bridges Farm in Somerset since 1816, and the family is now six generations deep. The orchards are their own, the fermentation is natural, and the range has stayed pointed at proper cider rather than fashion.
