Gluten-free cocoa porter with rich chocolate, biscuit and toffee notes, brewed with lager yeast for a smooth finish.
Big Sur Moon starts with a base of Vienna and Munich malts, layered with speciality malts to build a deep, chocolatey wort. Cocoa husks are then added in the whirlpool to amplify the chocolate character even further, before the beer is fermented with lager yeast and cold conditioned for extra smoothness.
The result is a rich but easy-drinking porter with chocolate, biscuit and toffee notes and a clean, rounded finish.

Is this more like a stout or a porter?
It’s very much a porter - rich and chocolatey without being too heavy or roasty. Think smooth cocoa and biscuit rather than ash or burnt coffee.
Will I like this if I’m not usually into dark beer?
Probably! It’s on the softer, chocolatey side of dark beer and only 4.2%, so it’s a nice “gateway” dark beer if you’re curious but don’t want anything too intense.
