Compostable Sponge
Compostable Sponge
Compostable Kitchen Sponge - EcoLiving
A fully home compostable, plastic-free sponge made in the UK from cotton, wood pulp and flax - more absorbent, more hygienic and better for the planet than a conventional synthetic sponge.
Standard polyurethane sponges shed microplastics every time you use them, harbour bacteria rapidly, and typically need replacing weekly - sending a steady stream of plastic straight to landfill. This EcoLiving sponge is made entirely from natural, renewable materials, absorbs up to ten times its dry weight in water, and is far easier to keep clean. When it does eventually reach the end of its life, cut it up and add it to your home compost.

Product Care
Wring out thoroughly after use and leave to air dry. Keeping it dry between uses significantly slows bacteria build-up and extends the life of the sponge.
FAQs
What is this sponge made from?
Cotton, wood pulp and flax - all natural, renewable materials with no plastic or synthetic foam involved.
Is it really more hygienic than a regular sponge?
Studies have shown conventional synthetic kitchen sponges can harbour more bacteria than a toilet seat.
Natural sponges dry out more effectively between uses, which slows bacterial growth considerably - especially if you wring them out properly and leave them somewhere airy.
How do I compost it at the end of its life?
Cut it into smaller pieces and add to a well-maintained home compost heap.
Unlike synthetic sponges it contains no plastic, so it'll break down fully without leaving anything harmful behind.
How does this compare to the compostable sponge cloths?
The compostable sponge cloths are thinner and more cloth-like - great for wiping down surfaces.
This sponge is thicker and more absorbent, making it better suited to washing up and heavier cleaning tasks.
